About this photograph:

I bought myself a bundle of tulips at the local grocery store - fresh flowers are a luxury I am indulging during the Covid-19 pandemic. I kept these tulips as long as possible until they were well past when many people might keep them. They were full-blown and the pedals were near-transparent from their usual opaque white. But, the stems were still strong and the texture of pedals was incredible.

This photograph is number two in an accidental series. I was cleaning up the scene after photographing "Tulips I" and cut all the stems of the tulips to sit in this glass vase. I wanted to keep each tulip until their petals fell off completely. Still inspired by the light, the strength of the transparent petals, and the mess of the tulips that could not be saved, I composed this image. To add highlights to the vase and create separation from the black background, I have taped a small piece of white paper to the vase.
