The miracle of photography is that it can capture those moments that are so ordinary yet the parts of our childhood, or our children’s childhood, we wish we could recall in detail. As I continue to evolve as a photographer and seek greater ways to use my camera and my ability to document life as I see it, I find myself more and more attracted to candidly photographing families. Photography families in their homes, doing life and being authentically themselves.
Candid family photojournalism. These are the types of photographs I love most from my own childhood. I wish I had more of them that showed the dynamics between me, my brothers, and my parents. I especially wish I had more photographs that showed just how hard my parents worked for us around the house, in the yard, and with the farm animals.
I am so thankful that the Bilsky family allowed me to join them in their home and spend six hours photographing a day in their life. If you’d like to book a session with me, please get in touch: shannon@shannonmayphotography.com.
