I’m always saying that a wedding should be a reflection of the couple and not of wedding trends or what others say a wedding is supposed to be. And most of the couples who I work with share this same thought about weddings, but I feel like Jen and Kevin’s wedding at Lake George near Fredericton, New Brunswick really epitomized this!
Their ceremony was held in Kevin’s family’s backyard overlooking the Saint John River, and their reception venue was at his family’s cottages on Lake George. They began their reception with celebratory shots for the whole party and then dined on pizza for dinner and McCain’s Deep & Delicious for dessert. Their best friends from near and far stood up with them as they said “I do”, while others brought their musical talents to serenade the newlyweds during their first dances as a married couple.
The party really kicked it into high gear with more live music from their favourite east coast band, The Hypochondriacs, breaking from the dance floor only long enough to enjoy the most epic firework show I have ever witnessed.
All of this made for a perfect wedding shoot and desire to photograph more backyard-like weddings! Don’t get me wrong, I love the ballroom and formal weddings too, but there is just something about informal weddings at personal venues and a-typical choices that really inspires me!! Maybe it’s because my own wedding was a small backyard wedding with live music, pizza, and a whole lot of “us.”
