Last fall I took a quick trip to Halifax just so I could photograph Ellen and Kurtis’s engagement photos in their first home together, in the very spot on the couch where Kurtis said “will you”, Ellen replied “yes”, and they began to plan out the next stage in their already incredible life together.
the value of a photograph
One day, in the far-off future, when Ellen and Kurtis think back to the day they became engaged and try to remember the details of their apartment where it all went down, I hope they’ll pull out their engagement photos and sit this with their gallery for a while. Or perhaps, if children are a part of their future, when their children ask about the first place they ever lived together and what did it look like, they will sit on their couch and go through their photo album with their children.

After spending some time in their home, we ventured out to create some portraits in one of their favourite areas of Halifax and then onto Herring Cove to document their love against the gorgeous coastal scenery. I have loved Herring Cove since first visiting it when I was in Halifax to photograph Kristen and Nick’s wedding in 2017.
I love that Ellen and Kurtis wanted to have their engagement photos taken in the city where their love grew. Especially now that their time in Halifax has come to a close and they will begin their marriage back in their home city of Fredericton.
